Details – What happened in The Infinite Sea?
A group of people at a farm see someone walking through a field. It’s a child who says his throat hurts. When a woman bends to look in his throat, the carbon dioxide she breathes triggers the bomb there. The whole farmhouse is vaporized.
Book 1-The Problem of Rats
Cassie, Ben/Zombie, Sammy/Nugget, Teacup, Dumbo, Poundcake, and Ringer are at a hotel. Things are rough. Infection has set in in Ben’s wound. Winter is coming, and they need to find better shelter. Ringer leaves to scout nearby caverns they read about in a brochure.
Ringer comes across a 5th waver shot in the woods. She gets the feeling she’s being watched and sees someone approaching. She shoots and then is shocked to find it’s Teacup, who wanted to come along with her. She will need medical attention to survive. She submits to incoming helicopters to save Teacup.

Book 2-The Ripping
Cassie tells Sam how their father died. Ben sends Poundcake to find Teacup and wonders aloud why the aliens waited so long to launch their attack. Cassie thinks because they were divided on whether to wipe out the total population and concludes the aliens chose five separate attacks because they hate the human race after years of observation.
Ben and Cassie search for their friends together since they haven’t returned. They leave Sam locked in a room with a handgun. They make their way through the hotel, checking each room. They hear shots fired from Sam’s room. Cassie rushes back and tackles the perpetrator.
Book 3-The Last Star
Evan awakes near a campfire to extreme pain. He’s in and out of consciousness and dreaming of Cassie. He recognizes Grace, the woman there with him. They knew each other as teenagers. He’s been out for three days and has been murmuring “Cassie.” Grace asks who she is, and he says she’s a human he followed to the base. She’s suspicious. Grace carries Evan back to her cabin and nurses him back to health. While she’s on a supply run, Evan forces himself to get up and look for weapons.
When Grace returns, she begins changing Evan’s bandages. He strangles Grace with a wire and leaves. A shot rings out, and Evan knows Grace survived and is in pursuit of him. And that will lead her to Cassie. One night they come under attack. Evan runs, and Grace stays to pick off their attackers off one by one.
Evan is in bad shape from trying to move so quickly. His enhancements are now gone, and he makes it to the hotel by sheer will. He sees Ringer, Teacup, and Poundcake leave the hotel. Evan first comes across Dumbo and chokes him until he is unconscious. He sees two people going from room to room but can’t see who they are. When they split up, Ben heads toward Evan. He punches Ben in his wounded stomach and asks where Cassie is. Ben stabs him in the leg. They fight until Evan feels Ben go still. He sees Sam peeking out of a hotel room. Evan kicks down the door and is shot from behind.
Book 4-Millions
Poundcake’s mother contracted the plague when he was six. He had to take care of his three year old brother. They ran out of food, and he went out searching. When he got home, his brother was gone. He searched for him but never found him. When his mother died, he buried her and then left. He found the school bus and went to train as a soldier but never spoke again.
Book 5-The Price
After Dumbo, Ben, and Sam leave the room, Evan wakes up. Cassie is mad and wonders why he left her at the base and why it took him so long to make it to the hotel. He says he saw Teacup and Poundcake head north. He says it’s not safe to go after them because of Grace.
Ben, Sam, Dumbo, and Poundcake return. But Poundcake can’t tell them what happened. Dumbo says it will be a month before Evan is strong enough to travel. Cassie will stay behind with him. Ben says no, they will all leave tomorrow.
The next morning they hear helicopters approaching and then leaving. A young girl appears. Sammy recognizes her as Megan, a girl from the bus. Her throat hurts. They are suspicious. Ben wonders if they’ve implanted a tracking device in her. Cassie searches her, but there’s no device.
Evan awakes and tells them why Megan’s throat hurts. Ben, Sam, Dumbo, and Poundcake leave. Against all odds and with Evan’s help, Cassie cuts the critical wire halfway down Megan’s throat to disable the device. Evan says this was done to see whether he is with them.
They decide they need to detonate the device remotely to make the aliens think they all died. They can use the CO2 canisters for fountain drinks from the diner and set them at a slow leak in a small space. Evan draws Cassie a map of where they should head.
Dumbo is escorted in the room by Grace. She takes their weapons. Cassie attacks. Grace breaks her nose and throws her to the end of the hallway. Grace shoots Poundcake and then disappears. Cassie runs to the room Sam is in. Evan says they all have to leave. Grace wants him. Cassie won’t leave Evan behind.
They hear a helicopter. Evan tells them to leave him a gun and to go to the house on the map. It’s Grace’s house and is stocked with food, water, and supplies. He says at the equinox the mothership will send a pod for Grace. If they can figure out a way to rig the pod before it heads back to the mothership, they have a chance at ending this.
Cassie wants to head to the safe house, and Ben wants to head to the caverns Ringer was going to scout. Ben collapses under the weight of the injured Poundcake. Poundcake isn’t going to make it. They go on without him. Sam realizes he dropped the plastic bag with the device in it. Just then, the hotel explodes.
Book 6-The Trigger
After discovering the bomb in the little girl, Poundcake wonders if his little brother had to endure some cruel fate like this. He knows he isn’t going to make it. He isn’t angry when his friends can’t carry him anymore. After they leave, he gets a burst of strength and crawls back to the hotel. He finds the device by the hotel doors. He finds Grace. She lays down her weapons when she sees what he’s carrying. He opens up the plastic bag and breathes.
Book 7-The Sum of All Things
Ringer is at a military base, and Vosch comes to visit her one day with a chess set. She wants to know whether Teacup is still alive. When she doesn’t answer his questions, he pushes a button that supposedly kills Teacup. Ringer attacks Vosch. She’s taken to an infirmary and discovers Teacup is still alive. Ringer is restrained and sedated.
A guy named Razor comes in to bring her dinner and tries to be friendly. Ringer decides to try to build a rapport with him to get information. Vosch comes back later and shows Ringer a video of the farm explosion and insinuates Teacup will be next unless Ringer cooperates. She refuses.
Vosch has a doctor implant a hub in Ringer’s brain so she can host 40,000 nanobots to augment each of her biological systems. Her body doesn’t respond well. No one visits now besides Razor to bring meals she won’t eat and the doctor for quick check-ups. One day Razor brings a chess board so she can teach him to play. The next day he makes up a new game called chaseball. Razor realizes he was sending her messages in the moves of chaseball. The next day, Ringer subtly lets Razor know she understands. They send each other messages through the game and through Morse code-like taps.
Vosch asks the doctor to pull her off all of the medicines. Razor says she has an internal fight going on and must surrender to what they’ve implanted in her. The only person she sees the next month is Razor, and he takes care of her and plays chaseball with her. Ringer learns a lot about him.
Ringer gets diarrhea one night from laxatives she asks Razor to slip into her pudding. The doctor takes her to the shower, and Ringer attacks. Her enhancements kick in, and she handles her easily. Ringer uses her new amazing senses and finds Teacup.
She sets off the fire alarm, carries Teacup out, and finds a car where Razor said it would be. They drive to the hangar and meet him there. The pilot he found isn’t cooperating. Ringer uses her new powers to manipulate the pilot’s mind. They fly away.
Razor explains he switched sides when Ringer told him about turning kids into bombs. He thinks everything’s a lie because Vosch’s crew seems to have more of the alien’s weapons than they do…their bombs, their implants, and their nanobot system.
F-15’s come on their radar. Razor jumps with Teacup in tandem. Ringer can’t jump because the nanobot system goes in self-preservation mode. She cuts the engines and is thrown out of the door. She hits a pond and sinks beneath the icy top layer. The nanobots take over, and Ringer survives with only minor injuries.
Razor is amazed she survived. Ringer wonders why they aren’t being pursued. She kisses Razor. Razor takes Ringer to the warehouse where he says Teacup is waiting, but Ringer knows something is off. Her enhanced mind picked up on the lies buried deep within when she kissed him.
Ringer goes in alone, and Vosch is waiting for her. They had to test her to see if she could use her new senses in a real life situation. They fight. She says the aliens aren’t here and never were. She doesn’t think alien consciousnesses were downloaded into anyone. They’re advanced humans like her, and that is all. But she’s not sure what Vosch is. He tells her she must stay there a week or two, with Razor to take care of her. She asks Razor where Teacup is. He won’t speak to her. She tells him she thinks it was too big a risk for the aliens to come to earth, so they never came but made everyone believe they were here.
Ringer asks Razor if any of it was ever true. He kisses her and opens his soul for her to read. In the center of it is him holding her, and she is glad. He tells her to run. She won’t leave because of him and Teacup. After eight days, they hear a chopper coming. It is Vosch and Teacup. Vosch wants her to hunt Evan because he knows too much. Razor whispers run and shoots the man guarding Teacup. The guard shoots Razor in the chest. Ringer jumps out of the window and runs.
