About Cash App Pay
Cash App Pay simplifies in-person and online transactions, providing customers an easy and contactless way to pay. During checkout, customers who choose Cash App Pay as their payment method will generate a unique QR code they can scan with their mobile device to make their payment through Cash App. This will help them pay quickly, and also helps your business mitigate the risk that comes with card-not-present transactions.
Before you begin
Cash App Pay is currently available for businesses processing payments on Square Register, Square Stand, and Square Terminal, as well as Square Point of Sale, Square for Retail, Square Appointments, Square Invoices, Square Online, Square Payment Links, and Square Virtual Terminal.
Cash App Pay is not available with Square for Restaurants at this time.
If you don't see Cash App Pay as a payment option on your point of sale device or app, be sure to enable it in your checkout settings.
Accept payments with Cash App Pay
How you accept payments with Cash App Pay will depend on the device, app, or platform you're using.
Square Register
- Once your customer is ready to pay, tap Charge.
- Select Cash App Pay as the payment method.
- When the QR code generates on the customer-facing display, have the customer scan it with Cash App.
After the customer finishes paying, the transaction will show as completed.
If the customer scans the QR code while the cart is still being built, when you tap Charge, Square Register will detect that the customer scanned the QR code and will process the payment automatically.
Square Stand
Square Stand (2nd generation):
- Once your customer is ready to pay, tap Charge.
- Select Cash App Pay as the payment method.
- When the QR code generates on your device display, swivel your Square Stand toward the customer to have them scan the QR code with Cash App.
Square Stand (1st generation):
- Once your customer is ready to pay, tap Charge.
- Tap All payment options and select Cash App Pay as the payment method.
- When the QR code generates on your device display, swivel your Square Stand toward the customer to have them scan the QR code with Cash App.
After the customer finishes paying, the transaction will show as completed.
Square Terminal
- Once your customer is ready to pay, tap Charge.
- If you don’t see a list of payment methods, tap X and select Cash App Pay as the payment method.
- When the QR code generates on the terminal display, have the customer scan it with Cash App.
After the customer finishes paying, the transaction will show as completed.
Square Point of Sale, Square Retail POS, and Square Appointments POS apps
- Once your customer is ready to pay, tap Charge.
- Select Cash App Pay as the payment method.
- When the QR code generates on your device display, have the customer scan it with Cash App.
After the customer finishes paying, the transaction will show as completed.
Square Invoices
Square Dashboard:
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Payments > Invoices.
- Click Send an invoice.
- Fill out the customer information and invoice details.
- Under “Payment options,” select Cash App Pay.
- Review the invoice details and click Send.
Square Invoices app:
- Sign in to your Square Invoices app and tap Invoices > + to create a new invoice.
- Fill out the customer information and invoice details.
- Tap Payment methods accepted and select Cash App Pay.
- Review the invoice details and tap Send invoice.
Customers who receive an invoice from you will see the option to pay with Cash App Pay during checkout.
Square Online
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Sales channels > Online.
- Go to Settings > Checkout or Shared Settings > Checkout.
- Under Cash App, toggle on Accept Cash App.
Customers who make a purchase on your Square Online site will see the option to pay with Cash App Pay during checkout.
Square Payment Links
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Payments > Payment Links.
- Go to Settings > General.
- Under Payments, toggle on Cash App.
Customers who make a purchase using your payment link will see the option to pay with Cash App Pay during checkout.
Square Virtual Terminal
- Sign in to your Square Dashboard and go to Payments > Virtual Terminal.
- Go to Settings > Checkout.
- Under “Payment methods,” toggle on Send Payment Link so customers can pay using Cash App Pay.
Customers who make a purchase using your payment link sent from Virtual Terminal will see the option to pay with Cash App Pay during checkout.
So customers can pay a Virtual Terminal transaction with Cash App Pay, be sure to enable Cash App Pay for your Square Payment Links.
